Reed sizes really matter for alto sax?
I play alto sax and bought a new one and now i cant play the high notes anymore or its really hard too is it because the sax is new.
or
is it because the reed size too big i play a 2 and a half reed and cant play a 3rd octave F. So if i play a size 2 can i play a high F?
Reed sizes do matter for sax. The bigger the size, the thicker the reed. If you are playing on a new horn and you don’t have the range that you used to have, I would try dropping down to a smaller reed size. This will give you more control and will have an easier time getting your range back. If you are also using a new mouthpiece, this may also contribute to the difficulties you have in reaching the high F.
